I identify as a clinician-scholar, and believe that consuming and conducting research is a way for me to explore and add to what I and other counselors know, so that we can better serve our clients. My areas of interest include:
- Graduate student mental health
- Creative thinking and expressive techniques in counseling, including sandtray
- Counselor development and supervision
- Gender identity, gender, and sexuality issues
- Ambiguity tolerance for counselors
- Family values conflicts (including career decisions, LGBT coming out)
My desire for learning and understanding is also expressed is through my appreciation for the different ways of knowing offered by different paradigms of research. These different angles help us better understand our world and the people we encounter in it.
Some projects in which I've applied different research methods include:
|
What we learn through research can help us be better counselors, supervisors, and teachers. I want my research to help develop our understanding of issues, while doing the practical work of supporting the people at the heart of those studies.
